Mens 3rd vs Ipswich 4

Another tough encounter

The 3’s were not expecting an easy second game of the season against what was sure to be a well drilled Ipswich side. The team welcomed Freddie Maynard to his first outing for the squad and he was a very welcome addition to a side with otherwise an average age of over 40 probably. Against the more youthful and fit Ipswich team, Sudbury knew they needed much better possession that the start of last weeks game. A slightly modified team stucture of a 5-2-3 was adopted to find more opportunities down the wings and strengthen the defence. The defence back line of Woods, Dudley, Fergs, Batch and Freddie spent much of the game soaking up the relentless high play of the Ipswich midfield and attack and worked hard to give North in goal a fighting chance. The odd break from Sudbury shown some promise with Ipswich playing so high, but these opportunities were limited and the first half finished 4-0 to the home side.

The second half played out much the same with with only a few attacking chances on goal Doyle was able to find the goal after picking up a weakly cleared ball in the D. Four more home goals followed to end the game 8-1. A disappointing score line, but it was a promising performance against a strong opposition and much better than the previous week in all.

Next weeks game is an opportunity to get the first points of the campaign if the same level of performance can be found.
